“There… Where Hearts Are More Beautiful Than Places”
I spent a lifetime—by no means a short one—in the field of education, where the years passed with me surrounded by the sounds of pens, the whispers of students, and the laughter of colleagues during brief breaks between one class and another. It was not merely a school; it was a small homeland, where the burden of upbringing was carried and hope was planted in the eyes of tomorrow.
There, within that refined community, the true meaning of giving was discovered. The most beautiful moments of life were lived among classroom desks, lesson boards, and unforgettable faces… students who were once young dreamers, then grew into men and women who achieved their paths. Each day, the same door was opened, yet the spirit soared into ever-renewed horizons, for education was never just a job—it was a mission inhabited by passion and conscience.
Today, after retirement, feelings of fulfillment mingle with feelings of loss… How could the heart not long for those who once surrounded it like a family? How could the eyes not well up when missing those looks filled with respect, and those conversations that began with a question about a lesson and ended with a lesson about life?
Retirement is not merely rest; it is a moment of silence that reminds us of a noise we loved… the noise of the school bell, the eagerness of a student asking, and a hand raised at the back of the class seeking a chance to speak. What a void it is—one that only memory can fill.
I left the walls behind, yet my soul still hovers there. And my heart, whenever it passes by a school, beats as if it hears the bell calling out: “Welcome back, you who shaped generations.”
May God have mercy on those days… and may longing endure as long as the soul remains.
